Roles of a Wedding Party

Roles of a Wedding Party

A wedding party is essentially a support network for the bride and groom throughout the wedding planning process, as well as the day of the wedding. They aren’t simply people wearing the same thing the day of the wedding that the couple is close with. In fact, the bridal party should consist of people that the couple can truly rely on because there are a lot of roles of a wedding party.

Assisting with Wedding Planning

First and foremost, the wedding party should be available to assist throughout the wedding planning process. While they aren’t picking the wedding colors and floral arrangements, they can help run errands, address invitations, and help by contact vendors to get quotes for the couple.

Organizing the Bridal Shower

The bridal party, especially on the bride’s side, are also usually responsible for organizing the bridal shower. First, work with the bride or brides to see what they envision the day looking like as well as their guest list. Then, work together to set a budget, choose the venue, get invitations addressed and sent out, plan the agenda for the day of, etc.

Throwing Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

The bachelor and bachelorette parties also fall on the shoulder of the respective bridal parties. These events can range from a night out to a weeklong vacation so talk it over with the bride and groom to see what they’re thinking, but be sure to set realistic expectations. If a weeklong trip to Italy isn’t in the budget, steer the bride or groom to something that is a bit more affordable and still just as enjoyable.

Supplying Emergency Kit

It’s always important to have an emergency kit for the day of the wedding. This includes tissues, deodorant, dental floss, mouthwash, a small sewing kit, stain remover and any other essentials you might need to combat issues that arise on-site.

Dealing with Vendors the Day Of

While the wedding venue will deal with the vendors in terms of receiving shipments, there may be some last-minute day-of interactions with vendors that the bride should designate to the bridal party. A list of vendors, contact names and numbers, should be put together and held by a member of the bridal party. If the flowers are late, don’t make the bride or groom call. Additionally, if the DJ is playing songs that are driving people off the dance floor, a member of the bridal party should step up instead of sending a flustered bride or groom up to speak with them.

Giving Speeches

The Maid of Honor and Best Man are also responsible for giving speeches on the day of the wedding. This is something that should be written in advance and you should likely avoid drinking too heavily until after you’ve successfully given your speech.
